Friday, July 7 saw a sell-out group of 33 members and guests arrive at O Tasco restaurant, north of Penina, Portimão, for CASA’s last spring 2023 event.
We had been warned not to arrive earlier than we had booked as the staff might not be available, however, we were very pleased to find everything ready – including the bar being open – on arrival of the committee and a few very keen early-birds.
As soon as everyone had arrived, the service promptly started and continued non-stop for almost three hours.
The food was excellent, the grilled fish in particular producing gasps of amazement. The range of desserts on offer was vast – making a choice was not easy.
The location on the covered patio at the front of the restaurant was a good choice. The recent heatwave was ameliorated by a gentle breeze making for near-perfect conditions for an evening meal.
A lot of friendly chatter throughout the meal indicated we had a happy crowd and all those we asked said they had had a very enjoyable meal and a good time. A great choice of venue – but then we have been here before so knew we would be fine. Our great thanks to all the friendly staff at O Tasco for the excellent service and a most enjoyable evening.
Our autumn programme will commence after the summer break, with two events in September, both of which are new to the club.
Details of these and all our events, and club membership, are on our website www.casasocial.club
About the CASA Social Club
CASA was founded over 40 years ago in the late 1970s so that expatriates to the Algarve could get together on an informal social basis. The basis of the group was a monthly dinner which was often followed by performances by some of the members who had acting talents. In time, the group became over-large for the local venue, so the group split. Those more interested in the performance aspect went on to form the well-known Algarveans amateur theatrical group in the early 1980s – some people are still active in both associations.
The club has changed much in subsequent years as both the Algarve itself and the expat community have evolved.
Although originally formed in the small coastal town of Carvoeiro (hence the name Carvoeiro Association for Social Activities), we are now more diverse with membership across the entire West-Central area of the Algarve.
Due to the more dispersed nature of our members, at the AGM in March 2023 the full name of the club was changed to Club for Algarvian Social Activities.
