Carvoeiro proudly presents new "welcome" mural

Carvoeiro has proudly unveiled a colourful new mural to welcome holidaymakers and residents.
Based on a photograph by local man Jorge Fonseca, it has been painted onto the side of one of the houses at the entrance to the little town by resident and artist Stephen Jones.
The initiative has the blessing of the parish union of Lagoa and Carvoeiro, which has embarked on all sorts of ideas to “embellish the town”, and offer “a traditional yet modern image” of Carvoeiro to the thousands who visit every year.
In August, the parish sited a fishing boat at the entrance to the popular tourist destination, as a symbol of Carvoeiro’s “fishing roots”.
It also replaced the town’s metal sign with the newly-restored original town plaque, made in stone.
As the union promises, more initiatives are in the pipeline.
