A “huge” New Year’s Eve Party is being organised for the first time in Carvoeiro and is promising to be the best the town has ever seen.
Organised by the Lagoa and Carvoeiro Parish Union, the party will start at 10pm at the town’s beachside square with a performance by Xico Barata, a local musician who for years has kept people dancing through the night in the Algarve to the sound of African music.
Taking the stage an hour later, the popular Algarve band 5EX will keep the show going until 1am with a short break halfway through for what promises to be a stunning 15-minute fireworks show.
The party will continue until 3am with MC Katorz performing alongside Carvoeiro’s favourite DJ Alexandre Ramos.
Organisers say that the party is being planned with “great attention to detail”. There will be a tent covering the beachside square so that “everyone will feel comfortable” whatever the weather, with bars open between 9.30pm and 3am. Traffic will also be partially cut off on Rua dos Pescadores and near the square.
“Hosting a New Year’s Party in Carvoeiro is an old wish of ours,” says Joaquim João, the President of the Parish Union.
He added: “We had been thinking about doing it since 2014, but we were always aware that human and financial resources were limited. However, with a lot of effort, dedication and help from everyone, we will have a great night in Carvoeiro.”
Christmas fair this weekend
It is this weekend (December 13-15) that Carvoeiro will be hosting its Christmas fair, called ‘Aldeia Pirata ao Vivo’.
Taking place between 10am and 7pm at the town’s beachside square, the event will feature pirate-themed entertainment as well as stalls selling handicraft, local products and even mulled wine.
It is the perfect place to enjoy some festive entertainment whilst also searching for traditional Algarvian presents.
