Work to redevelop Carvoeiro has begun, with traffic being redirected and the entire square by the sea now a building site.
Pedestrians are to be given priority over parking spaces in the new plans with work expected to be completed by June at a cost of 686,000 euros.
Heavy vehicles are being redirected and Rua dos Pescadores is closed to traffic except for access purposes. The road out of the village (Rua do Barranco) now has two-way traffic flow.
