Carvoeiro beach in “dreadful state”

Carvoeiro parish council has called on the regional water authority (ARH) to remove rocks and stones that have littered Carvoeiro beach since the winter.

In a letter to ARH, the parish council, which describes the beach as being in a “dreadful state”, says the situation has worsened recently and wants the problem resolved as quickly as possible “because it is affecting local tourism”.

A spokesman for the parish council said: “It is shameful that the most important beach in the parish, holding the blue flag and having accessibility for people with reduced mobility, is in this state.

“Many tourists have already suffered injuries and vessels have difficulties entering and exiting the beach.”

The ARH told the Algarve Resident: “This is a situation that results from the ocean currents, tides and erosion, and is quite normal. The situation was reviewed and we see no reason for any kind of intervention.”
