After reading Lynne Booker’s “evocative and heart rendering” article (Facing disaster) in last week’s Algarve Resident, Tavira resident Chris Wright felt moved to launch an appeal to residents who own land with carob trees to help raise funds for the fire victims in the Eastern Algarve.
Chris Wright is asking those with carob trees to collect the fruit, sell it and donate the proceeds to the communities devastated by the fires.
He said: “We have several ancient carob trees on our property and last year raised over €150 by selling our crop. This year we will donate the proceeds to the fire-affected communities.”
The Tavira resident is also offering to collect the carobs (minimum of 20 sacks) if residents live within five kilometres of Tavira town centre. “But please do not ask us to come and pick the carobs as our own trees keep us pretty busy!” he said. Email [email protected]
