FROM February 6 to 8, Loulé will once again throb with Carnival sound and colour. This year, the theme is ‘From the audience wars…to Carnival battles’ and the highlight of the event will be the traditional ‘Baile da Comissão’, which aims to recreate the exotic atmosphere of the Venice carnival. During the three-day event, a procession of 16 floats will parade along the Avenida José da Costa Mealha, between 2.30pm and 6pm, and will feature dance troop ‘Yes Brazil’, the Abrigada and Sacavém samba schools, the Douro puppet group and the Loulé majorettes. The traditional ‘flower battle’, which involves the throwing of thousands of flowers, sweets and confetti, is expected to be the biggest yet for the city.
