Catholic charity Cáritas has launched another edition of its ‘10 Milhões de Estrelas’ (10 Million Stars) Christmas campaign which aims to raise funds for those in need.
People can help by simply buying a candle (€1) or a pack of four candles (€4) at the Cáritas premises, schools and parishes, or at Pingo Doce supermarkets.
Says Cáritas, 65% of the proceeds will go to Cáritas and its projects in Portugal while the remainder will be donated to the victims of the devastating summer and autumn wildfires in the centre of Portugal.
The campaign was launched on the World Day of the Poor.
Eugénio Fonseca, president of Cáritas Portugal, wants those who buy a candle to light it at their window on Christmas Eve as a “symbol of the desire and commitment to bring peace to the world”.
