THE SÃO Brás car boot sale, which has been held on the third Sunday of each month for the last 10 years, closed recently.
The popular event has been organised by the Friends of São Brás and has raised more 200,000 euros for charity, providing help for the poor of São Brás and making cash donations to the Bombeiros and Radiotherapy Unit at Faro. The decision to close was forced by the increasing number of professional market traders using what should be a sale of second-hand and used items to sell new goods. The Friends of São Brás regret the inconvenience to genuine vendors, and hope that the Câmara will take over the event and introduce strict control through a licensing system in 2006.
