Captain signs new contract

Olhanense captain Rui Duarte, 33, has put pen-to-paper and signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2014. Rui Duarte has provided inspirational leadership under new manager Sérgio Conceição who himself has been linked with the vacant manager’s job at SC Braga who has confirmed the departure of coach Leonardo Jardim after just one season, by mutual consent. Despite leading the Arsenalistas to a 3rd-place finish in the Liga, and securing Champions League qualification, a reported fall-out with President António Salvador over a newspaper interview has seen Jardim exit the Quarry; with a flurry of changes at other Liga clubs reported to be in the offing. Olhanense President Isidoro Sousa is confident that Sérgio Conceição will stay with the Algarve side for the coming season. 35 year-old centre-back Mauricio has signed a new twelve month contract whilst midfielder Ivanildo could be off to join Persepolis (Tehran) who are endeavouring to reclaim their position as Iran’s top club.
