Jorge Paixão was unveiled as the successor to the dismissed Mauro de Brito as manager of newly promoted Algarve second division club Farense.

The 47-year-old has strong links to the region – his wife is from Loulé and he also played for Louletano in attack during the 1987/88 season – while his coaching career has seen him work both in this country’s second tier as well as recent stints in Angola and Qatar.

Prior to his official presentation Paixão was in the São Luis Stadium stands to witness his new club’s most recent outing against AC Viseu, which ended in a 1-1 draw despite the visitors having been reduced to 10 men only 28 minutes into the match.

Clearly the man has plenty of work ahead of him given Farense’s paltry tally of three points from seven games and a goal difference which reads one scored, seven conceded.
