‘Cannibal’ locked in cell 22 hours a day

Since hitting the headlines after arriving in the country with pieces of potentially human meat in his luggage, Brazilian Begoleã Fernandes has been locked in a jail cell in Lisbon airport for 22 hours every day. The 26-year-old suspected of murder in Amsterdam just over a week ago is waiting to be extradited to Holland. Since his arrest last week, there has been no further news on the origin of the meat he was carrying. But due to the media frenzy he is apparently known of ‘the cannibal’, says tabloid Correio da Manhã – and the reason he is kept locked up is that guards want to ‘contain any untoward reactions with other inmates’.
