“It was not the enthusiasm of a new commercial activity, or the euphoria of the non-existent intense psychoactivity that brought us into this business; but rather a long and experienced path in the use of cannabidiol (CBD) for health purposes, and with many benefits, in people close to us.”, says Francisco Silva, owner and manager of the Cannabis Store Amsterdam in Quarteira, Praia da Rocha, Almancil and Albufeira.
Their path was not an easy one and they’ve encountered numerous difficulties along the way that they overcame through the ongoing transformation of the cultural attitude towards a stigmatic culture surrounding their trade name. “Knowledge of plants is beneficial to humans and animals, that is our motto, and people have now learned to know and accept our products”, Francisco tells us. “We are grateful for the effective feedback from many different customers who have visited us since the very beginning, and who recognised us for our innovation capabilities, sharing positive experiences and disseminating the main healthy element of Cannabis, CBD, because we came to fill a positive need.”, he adds.
After 24 months of activity, they tell us they have crossed a ‘long and unexpected desert’ in their voyage, remaining adamant and true to their mission of sharing this knowledge they have acquired over the years with those who can benefit from it.
CBD (cannabidiol) – the plant component without psychoactive effects – is used as a food supplement and for medicinal purposes. It is a powerful anticonvulsant, analgesic, anxiolytic, antiemetic and immunomodulatory, and also has anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and antitumor properties. “The growing scientific knowledge that supports CBD as a valid medical solution for a wide spectrum of potential applications, namely in pain relief, can no longer be ignored.”, Francisco tells us.
From the 32 Cannabis Store Amsterdam establishments in Portugal, Francisco has four in the Algarve and plans to open two more in Vilamoura and Tavira.
