Cancer unit

CASCAIS NEW hospital will not have an oncology service, according to the Portuguese health authorities.

The new hospital is expected to be finished by the end of 2009 and the reason given for the exclusion of this service is related with the total population of the Cascais district.

The national network for oncology has recommended the government to only allow this type of facilities in locations with more than 300,000 inhabitants.

This is not the case of Cascais, which has a population of 175,000. However, the old hospital is expected to maintain the normal assistance to all the cancer patients presently attending that unit.
