A SPECIALIST piece of equipment used to detect breast cancer was presented by Portimão’s Rotary Club and Junta de Freguesia to Portimão hospital’s oncology department at a dinner on January 18.
The Gama Probe was bought with money raised by the club’s fourth charity golf tournament, which took place on December 15 at Le Meridien Penina Golf and Resort. This piece of equipment will bring the efficiency of tumour detection to 100 per cent, compared with the previous method of visual identification that was 85 per cent effective.
