Glasses of tap water are being handed out to visitors on three Algarve beaches to highlight the quality of the region’s water supply.
The initiative by Águas do Algarve, the entity responsible for the Algarve’s water supply and waste water, started yesterday (Thursday) at Falésia beach near Vilamoura and continues until Tuesday.
The campaign, whose slogan is Água da Torneira – Eu Bebo (Water From the Tap – I Drink It), will also see the distribution of information about tap water.
All the water provided to beach goers will come directly from the water treatment plants of Tavira and Alcantarilha.
Águas do Algarve hopes to show consumers that tap water is a reliable product, which follows all the procedures and rigorous control measures.
“Tap water is a product of high quality and is more environmentally friendly than bottled water,” said a spokesman for Águas do Algarve.
The campaign continues today (Friday) at Falésia Beach, near Vilamoura, and moves on to Faro Island tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday before finishing at Praia de Monte Gordo in Vila Real de Santo António on Monday and Tuesday.
