A campaign inviting prospective donors to sponsor a rescued wild animal and return it to its natural habitat is being carried out by Olhão-based wild animal recovery group RIAS.
The list of animals includes owls, tortoises, crows, eagles and other species.
Sponsors will be then invited to take part in the return of the animal to its natural habitat, if possible, and will be entitled to a certificate at the end of the sponsorship.
The initiative, besides helping these animals return to Nature, is also described by the organisation as “a way to bring the population closer to the work developed by wild animal recovery centres”.
Those interested in supporting the centre and the animals can visit the group’s website and download and fill out the required form. Donations can be made by cheque or bank transfer. Minimum donations range from €15 to €25 for individual contributions or €250 for companies looking to endorse one of the animals.
Information regarding future activities will then be sent to the participants, who will consequently become “active members in the recovery of wild animals in Portugal”.
