An Emirati splashed around five million euros on purchasing three camels during an auction at a renowned festival in the desert near Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, earlier this month.
Some of the biggest camel owners in the Gulf, including princes and tribal dignitaries, attended the auction, held at the Dhafra Festival for Camels.
The three camels were bought by United Arab Emirates national Hamdan bin Ghanem for 1.96 million euros, 1.73 million euros and 975,000 euros, respectively.
Citizens of Gulf countries are passionate about camel racing, a national sport and tradition.
At the festival, competitions are held for the best camel meat and camel milk dishes, and for the best poem written about camels.
