Portugal’s secretary of state for local administration, José Junqueiro, was due to be in Alcoutim on Wednesday to sign a contract that will oversee the construction and refurbishment of the council building.
The project is expected to cost more than 649,000 euros, of which 50 per cent will be funded by the government.
Alcoutim’s Câmara building has been closed for four years because of its poor state of repair, with council services being scattered in improvised spaces through the town.
