Tonight (December 17) the Chiado Baroque Ensemble perform the Sonata Trio Portuguese and Italian sacred music by Pietro Locatelli, Moteto a Solo with violins by Francesco Luca Lombardi, Flute Sonata, with violin and cello by David Perez and Vivaldi’s Concert in D Minor, as well as arias by Almeida. The pieces will be performed from 9pm at the Igreja do Convento dos Cardais (Rua do Século).
Also tonight from 9.20pm a lighter children’s theme will be performed at the Salão Paroquial da Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Anjos with the participation of the Conservatory Music School. Life Portraits will be interpreted by a group of young pupils from the EMCN – In the Nursery (Piano Recital), Debussy’s Children’s Corner and Schumann’s Infant Scenes Op.15, with poetry reading by Afonso Lopes Vieira.
Portuguese and British composers are featured on Saturday (December 18) from 3pm at the Igreja do Coleginho (Mouraria) with Coro Ricerare’s Portuguese Polyphony from the 16th and 17th centuries and Morago by Estêvão Lopes. There will also be music from young Portuguese composers featuring Euricio Carrapatoso, Gonçalo Lourenço, José Luís Ferreira, Carlos Caíres and English Christmas carols performed by Edmund Rubra, R. Vaughan Williams and Christopher Bocchman.
The programme continues on Saturday at the Igreja de S. Domingos (Baixa) from 9.30pm with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra’s rendition of Handel’s The Messiah directed by Brian Schembri with the participation of soprano, Teresa Cardoso Menezes.
On the following day (Sunday, December 19) the programme finishes at the Igreja da Graça (Largo da Graça) from 4pm with a choral concert with the Lisbon Symphony Orchestra and the Regina Coeli Choir performing Magnificat by Bach, Missa by Carlos Seixas with tenor, João Rodrigues, and baritone, Armando Possante.
