Mexilhoeira da Carregação in Lagoa is preparing to host the ‘Arade Swimming Challenge’ on Sunday, April 16 at 11am.
The event is an open water swimming competition held in the Arade River, which organisers say boasts “excellent conditions for aquatic sports” and will help “promote swimming in general and the practice of open water swimming in particular.”
“Open water swimming is growing in the region, attracting more and more fans and athletes,” says Lagoa Council.
The ‘Arade Swimming Challenge’ is open to athletes registered with the Portuguese Swimming Federation, the Portuguese Triathlon Federation or other international federations recognised by World Aquatics.
Sometimes referred to as wild swimming, open water swimming is a swimming discipline that takes place in any kind of outdoor bodies of water, such as oceans, lakes, and rivers.
