Politicians have called for an end to discrimination against homosexuals who donate blood.
Representatives from Bloco de Esquerda party presented a resolution to Parliament on March 17 that calls for changes to the questionnaires presented to blood donors at blood drives and to prepare a document that will prohibit discrimination of donors based on their sexual orientation.
The move follows a case in December when a young medical student was forbidden from donating blood at Hospital de Santo António in Porto after he revealed his homosexuality.
He had previously made 10 blood donations without revealing his sexual orientation.
