Call centre to help foreigners

Dear Editor,

I would like to refer to the article “Portugal has massive potential” about Mr. Paul Henri Schelfhout (last week’s edition). I think it was a wonderful article, and he is fully right about the many things he has stated. However, there is one point he touched upon, where the actual infrastructure which Mr. Schelfhout referred to perhaps already exists.

Mr. Schelfhout looked at foreigners, often not familiar with the Portuguese language and who could have difficulty calling the authorities. A call centre was suggested (by him).

I would like to draw attention to the fact that such call centres already exist; existing security organisations can supply safety equipment at a very acceptable price, where just by pressing one button it connects the caller with the call centre, helping the caller to reach the police, health care, fire brigade and others, in the English language.

This service is available 24 hours, seven days a week, for between €20 and €30 per month. I would like to believe that this information would help bring the necessary peace of mind to many people. Mr. Schelfhout, could this information support your idea?

Thank you very much for the article, and good luck with Finangeste.
