Magna Carta Bookshop celebrated its first year of success last February. The shop is run by Susana Parker, a young Portuguese woman, who not only has a passion for books, but also for the UK. Originally from the Alentejo region, but now living in the Algarve, she chose to open the bookshop in the quaint fishing village of Alvor.
The cozy bookshop homes a great selection of English language books, from the old classics to the very latest bestsellers. New or used, there’s something for everyone.
Magna Carta also offers a postal service for those who are unable to visit the shop or who would prefer to have their books sent by mail. In fact, they offer free postage and packaging for orders over 75 euros and, for orders over 150 euros, they have a VIP service with books delivered directly to your door by courier.
Their book prices are based on the UK-recommended prices, with no extra charges, and, as they meet the shipping costs, this makes buying English books in Portugal easy and affordable. In addition, Magna Carta can offer to gift-wrap and post any books to anywhere in the world. They will even include a card and write it for you, if you are short of time.
Magna Carta is now giving away a free monthly, glossy magazine containing interviews with British celebrities, book reviews, puzzles and competitions. Call 282 496 001 or e-mail [email protected] to reserve your copy (limited stock). This regular magazine will keep you up-to-date with the best books being published in the UK.
Magna Carta’s website, www.magna-carta.biz, has also been improved and they now have an online book catalogue where you can check some of the books they have in stock. You may leave a comment on the books if you wish. They are not yet providing customers with an online shopping facility, but would like to know if this is something that might interest their customers. So, why not drop Susana a line and let her know what you think?
Magna Carta Bookshop is set in a privileged location, with lots of parking space all year round. For directions, call 282 496 001.
