Busy start to November for Bowls Algarve

Algarve bowlers’ luck is still holding. After the atrocious wet weather on Wednesday, Thursday was a beautiful day for the Super 10’s Competition on November 1. Unfortunately, the results are late arriving, so more news next week.

Saturday, November 3 also dawned bright and sunny for the League games. In League A, Floresta Foresters won six points from Floresta Rangers, who won two points. Valverde Vipers won three points against club rivals Valverde Vulcans who took five points. Alvor Scorpions won two points from Pedras Panthers, who won six points, and Tavira Tigers and Albufeira Cats each won four points.

League B, Alvor Greens won six points from club rivals Alvor Rooks, who won two points. Balaia Pods lost all eight points to Alvor Amigos, whilst Floresta Huntsman won all eight points from Valverde Vikings. Balaia Whalers were resting this week.

The table now reads League A, Floresta Foresters at the top with 14 points, closely followed by Valverde Vulcans on 12 points and Valverde Vipers chasing on 11 points. League B, Floresta Huntsmen are at the top with 16 points, closely followed by Alvor Amigos and Valverde Vikings on eight points each.

Sunday, November 11, Valverde is hosting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Jubilee Cup 2018 Competition to commemorate Remembrance Sunday. Especially poignant this year as it is the Centenary of the First World War, and to remember all those who lost their lives in all conflicts around the world. There will be two minutes’ silence at 11am, the beginning of the games, with trophies and prizes for seven rinks, 14 triples, and three sets of six ends.

Many clubs are sending teams to participate, whilst other clubs are hosting their own Armistice Day events.
