Bust tragedy

A night of fun with friends ended in tragedy for a university student in Évora who was crushed by a memorial bust in a public garden last Saturday. The student, aged 22, was with two other friends when they decided to jump the fence of Évora’s public gardens and ‘hug’ the bust in memory of the late architect and painter José Cinatti (1808-1879). However, the statue came loose and crushed the student’s thorax when he

fell on the floor. The victim was rushed to hospital but succumbed to multiple cardiac arrests. PSP police are investigating the case.
