Business associations in the Algarve have urged the government to suspend the A22 motorway tolls during Carnival and Easter due to fears that traffic on the only alternative – the infamous EN125 “death road” – will become overwhelmingly chaotic.
The extensive road renovations underway on the EN125 have already caused “serious traffic problems” all over the Algarve, with “huge consequences for citizens and businesses”.
And “it will only get worse” when tourists visit the Algarve for Carnival and Easter, claim the associations.
Hopes are that the government will suspend the A22 motorway tolls and avoid giving tourists a “negative image” of the region.
The statement was signed by AHETA, ACRAL, AIHSA, CEAL, NERA, and ANJE.
