Burns night in the Algarve

Members of the St Andrew’s Society of the Algarve held their annual Burns Supper at the Ponte Romana restaurant in Silves on January 22, with Chieftain Doug McAdam declaring the evening to be a “resounding success”.

Around 100 participants attended the supper, with guests welcomed by piper Malcolm MacGilivray before enjoying the traditional haggis and then the speeches made by Doug McAdam, John Fordyce and Mahala Baker.

After the supper, there was Scottish dancing, including an Eightsome Reel, with the night finishing with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

Members of the St Andrew’s Society of the Algarve do not have to be Scottish. For further information about the society, please call 916 988 869. To know more about the Scottish dancing sessions run on Monday evenings at the International School of the Algarve in Porches from 7.30pm, please call 282 356 029.
