Budgetary debate begins with all minority parties against

The parliamentary debate on Portugal’s 2022 State Budget has begun with all minority parties indicating that they will be voting against. The stand will not affect the government, which has an absolute majority. But it is ‘not a good sign’: the general consensus of minority parties being that the budget fails to address the needs of the country. Europe meantime has identified Portugal as one of 10 countries presenting ‘elevated risk’ when it comes to budgetary sustainability, albeit not in the short-term.
