Following the outcry over government plans to reportedly hammer the owners of ‘old vehicles’ (pre-2007) with increases in road fund tax (IUC), the prime minister has finally dispatched the controversy, telling parliament today that increases will be capped to €25 for the next two years (2024/ 2025). Mr Costa made a point of chastising the opposition for ‘talking things up’ to try and scare the Portuguese. “However much they invent, however much they want to talk it up, the truth is that this is yet another budget that increases the incomes of workers, young people, pensioners and all Portuguese families,” he said this afternoon.
