Brussels asks for more information on funding awarded minister’s husband

The European Commission has requested “more information on the attribution of community funding to the husband of the minister for Territorial Cohesion”. This is one of the many moot points that have affected the government in recent weeks – even more moot when it transpired that the minister’s husband’s business partner was a convicted Chinese fraudster. But the government has insisted the minister ‘did nothing wrong’. The European Commission’s request follows a question put to it by Euro MP Nuno Melo, who is also the leader of the CDS-PP, a centre-right party that has no seats any longer in Portugal’s parliament.
