A British couple, both 58, were arrested by the GNR at their home in Alcantarilha earlier this month for planting cannabis.
According to a GNR spokesman, the couple who live in Monte Raposos, Estação de Alcantarilha, grew the illegal plant in their garden.
A total of 47 plants between 1.5 metres and two metres in height were removed by the GNR during the raid, which took place on September 10.
A GNR spokesman told the Algarve Resident: “An anonymous tip off led to the arrest and the couple were taken to Silves court the following day.”
Meanwhile, two Cape Verdean men aged 36 and 43 were also arrested by the GNR in Alcantarilha Gare on September 11 for drug trafficking.
According to the GNR, the men were living in Portugal illegally and were found to be in possession of 6,000 doses of heroin, drug trafficking equipment such as scales, mobile telephones and 600 euros in cash.
Both men were taken to Portimão court and remain under arrest.
