Briton jumps for Algarve nature

British holidaymaker Rodney Langman, a retired stockbroker from Essex, is due to leap out of a plane in a tandem parachute jump over Alvor on November 7 to raise funds for local nature conservation charity A Rocha.

Rodney Langman told the Algarve Resident: “I have a property at Alto Golf and have been coming to the Algarve for more than 12 years.

“I have never been a bird watcher, but I went to visit the A Rocha charity once and was really moved to see how much the small team there care about the future of Alvor’s pristine wetland site.”

Rodney’s target is to raise 2,000 euros, although he says he would be delighted to raise more.

“I have run the London marathon before and raised more than 5,000 pounds in aid of a local cancer hospice in the UK,” he said.

The funds from Rodney’s parachute jump are to be used to help A Rocha with its campaign to ensure that the environmental Natura 2000 protection status is maintained against development pressures.

If you would like to sponsor Rodney, please send a cheque in euros or pounds sterling to A Rocha, Apt 41, 8500-132 Mexilhoeira Grande.

Alternatively, contact Marcial at A Rocha on 282 960 380 or email Portugal@arocha.org.

A Rocha also has a website, available in English, at www.riadealvor.org
