A British toddler, described as three-years-old, has drowned at a holiday villa in Carvoeiro.
Police are investigating the “possibility of negligence” on the part of family members present who may have been drinking, reports national tabloid Correio da Manhã.
The tragedy happened last Saturday at a rented villa in Carvoeiro, the paper reveals today.
The child’s family were on holiday.
When INEM and firemen arrived at the scene, the child was already in cardiorespiratory arrest, says CM, and reanimation efforts were unsuccessful.
Other than these details, no more is explained.
How the child ended up in the pool, why no-one was able to get him out in good time – none of these questions are answered.
CM’s report ends with: “One of the theories under investigation is the consumption of alcohol drinks in excess by family members”.
UPDATE: A later report carried by noticiasaominuto website claims the child was two-and-a-half years old and in the company of male family members.
His mother and grandmother had left the property, said to be in the Quinta do Paraíso area, to go shopping.
PJ police are considering a charge of “negligent homicide”, says the website.
