Family members and friends of the girl who died at Carvoeiro beach on August 24 gathered to remember her in a city garden in her home town in the UK.
Mia Knight, 16, died at the beach after losing consciousness. Lifeguards and INEM emergency services tried to resuscitate her without success.
According to British newspaper The Argus, “her family and friends lit candles and released balloons in Pavilion Gardens, Brighton, in her memory” on August 29.
Her family members who were in Portugal with her at the time of her death have now returned to the UK.
The newspaper reported that her funeral will take place on September 10 in St Luke’s Church, St Luke’s Terrace, Brighton.
