British pianist Charles Owen to perform in Algarve

Charles Owen, considered to be one of the finest British pianists of his generation, is visiting the Algarve this month for two concerts at Os Agostos country estate, located above Santa Bárbara de Nexe and near Bordeira.

On Tuesday, September 27, the renowned musician will interpret pieces by Bach, Liszt and Ravel. Two days later, his repertoire will focus on music by Bach and Chopin.

Charles studied in London at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal Academy of Music. He has won numerous awards including the Silver Medal at the 1995 Scottish International Piano Competition and the 1997 Parkhouse Award with violinist Katherine Gowers. He has appeared at London’s Barbican and Queen Elizabeth Hall and regularly gives concerts at Wigmore Hall. Internationally, Owen has performed at the Lincoln Center, Weill/Carnegie Hall, the Paris Musée d’Orsay and the Moscow Conservatoire.

He has been a regular guest at many leading festivals including Aldeburgh, Bath, Cheltenham and performed concerts with the Philharmonia, Royal Scottish National, London Philharmonic and the Moscow State Symphony orchestras.

He has also established a piano duo partnership with Katya Apekisheva. Charles and Katya have recorded the duo version of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and Petrushka.

Apart from all this, Charles is also a professor of piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Amigos de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7pm. Doors open an hour earlier and wine, fruit juices and canapés are served.

Tickets cost €25 for guests and non-members.
