British man survives 20 metre fall from cliff

A British man suffered just scratches and bruises after falling from a 20 metre high clifftop in Praia da Rocha in the early hours of Saturday.

The man, 27, was said to be “very drunk” when he sat on a wall outside Outro Bar, which sits on a cliff facing the beach. It was then that he lost his balance and fell backwards, stopping only when he hit some rocks five metres from the cliff base. Police said the man stood up and walked towards them when they approached the area.

He was treated for scratches and bruises at Barlavento Hospital.

Two other cliff falls involving foreign tourists in the same spot, both suffering only light injuries, have been reported.
