Britain’s leading student jazz band to perform in Algarve

THE UNIVERSITY of London Big Band, one of Britain’s leading student jazz ensembles, is travelling to the Algarve for a series of major concerts towards the end of March.

This award-winning group specialises in the work of legendary bandleaders such as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and Count Basie. The 20-piece band regularly performs to great acclaim, getting audiences out of their seats and dancing the night away. On hearing the Big Band for the first time, Lynda Turner of the Daily Mail wrote: “Their fine musicianship reflects strongly on the quality of jazz teaching currently in resurgence at British Conservatoires.” Players from the band will be talking about their forthcoming concerts on Owen Gee’s Classic Hits show on

Kiss fm radio on Sunday, March 26.

Already announced by the band is a charity concert on Tuesday, March 28, at the Albufeira Auditorium, starting at 9.30pm. The performance is being sponsored by Albufeira Câmara, the Rotary Club Albufeira and Balaia Golf Village. Tickets cost five euros per person. For further details, visit www.ulubigband.co.uk
