Brit arrested

A BRITISH man was detained recently by the Polícia Judiciária suspected of passing counterfeit currency. The arrest was the culmination of an operation carried out in collaboration with Albufeira GNR and resulted in the confiscation of 320 pounds sterling in fake notes. According to a police source, the notes had been fabricated outside Portugal at an unknown location and investigations are still underway to discover their origin and the extent of the counterfeiting. The detained man, aged 55, who was already known to police on account of criminal activities which took place two years ago, was subject to a preliminary judicial interrogation after bail was set at 10,000 euros. Over recent weeks, fake euro notes, produced on a laser printer, have also been seized in the Algarve region.
