Bringing the past alive

Algarve Archaeological Association (AAA) lectures are to be held on Tuesday, November 8.

The first is at the Museum of São Brás at 2.30pm and the second at the Convento in Lagoa, at 7.15pm.

They will be hosted by Dr Marta Diaz-Guardamino, who specialises in Archaeology of Neolithic and Bronze Age periods in the Iberian Peninsula.

She qualified from the University of Madrid and then carried out work in Germany and the US. She is soon to join the department of Archaeology at Southampton University for two years.

Excavations carried out in the Santa Maria da Graça historical square of Lagos will be the focus of the lecture Digging into the Biography of Lagos.

Covering the 14th to 20th centuries, life stories of the inhabitants will be discussed as the square had a graveyard within its walls between the 14th and 19th Centuries.

For non-members, there is a fee of €5, which will be used in assisting the payments of excavation grants throughout Portugal, particularly the Algarve.

There will be meals arranged prior to the first lecture and for after the second.

All are welcome.
