Portimão’s old bridge is due to reopen on July 15.
A spokesman from the câmara told the Algarve Resident: “Estradas de Portugal, the national highways agency, said that the original deadline defined by the maintenance company was correct, so the bridge is due to reopen on July 15.”
However, the spokesman added that the Câmara has not yet had official confirmation.
Portimão’s bridge was closed in November 2007 following an inspection which pointed to the danger of an imminent collapse due to the degraded state of the supporting pillars.
According to Lagoa Câmara, the closure of the bridge has affected between 6,000 and 8,000 people.
