Brexit prompts 400 British Sephardic Jews to apply for Portuguese nationality

They do not want to come and live here, but as many as 400 Brits who can trace their Sephardic Jewish heritage back to Portugal want to take advantage of the recently declared ‘amnesty’ (click here) to claim an EU passport, and dodge the looming border control horrors posed by Brexit.

Who says this is Michael Rothwell, of the Jewish community in Porto, as reported by Rádio Renascença.

He told the station that the interest came directly after the results of the referendum last summer, and what is even more interesting, is that some of the requests for information on how to apply for Portuguese nationality come from Brits who live elsewhere in Europe, but whose only prospect of remaining truly ‘European’ is becoming Portuguese.
