Paraglider dies after colliding with fellow enthusiast in Serra da Arrábida

A 51-year-old Portuguese paraglider died yesterday after colliding in mid-air with another enthusiast, aged 30 and described as Brazilian. The accident happened close to a ‘launch pad’ for paragliders to set off on their flights, in Serra da Arrábida (Setúbal). Roughly two dozen emergency response operatives were called to the scene. An INEM helicopter was ‘actioned’ to take the worst injured man to hospital, but he died before it arrived. The younger man was transported to Setúbal hospital with light injuries. Authorities are now investigating to understand exactly how the tragedy happened.
