Monchique art gallery Porca Preta is hosting two exhibitions in the following months by Brazilian artists Meire Gomes and Fernanda Eva.
The exhibition by Meira Gomes can be visited until August 30 and showcases several works by the Brazilian-born painter who moved to Portugal in 1999 and now lives in Monchique, where she is developing an urban art project that involves painting and breathing new life into rundown parts of the municipality.
Her exhibition at Porca Preta will take guests on a journey through the many phases of her artistic life. Meire Gomes is a self-taught painter who is also passionate about theatre
Art fans will have to wait until September 8, however, to see the works by Fernanda Eva. The artist visited Monchique at the end of 2018 and fell in love with the area, asking if she could enjoy an artist residency at Porca Preta.
She has been living in Monchique since July and is spending two months painting in the town. On September 8, Fernanda will be presenting her works inspired by her “fruitful and pleasurable artistic experience” in the Algarve. The exhibition will remain at Porca Preta until October 6.
Both exhibitions can be visited between Friday and Tuesday from 5pm to 8.30pm. Porca Preta can be found at Malhada Quente in Monchique. For directions, call 965 378 071.
