A speech by the normally bad tempered President of the Regional Government of Madeira was interrupted by a brave protester singing Revolution song ‘Grândola Vila Morena’.
Alberto João Jardim, also leader of the PSD party in Madeira, was presiding over a ceremony to celebrate the 505th anniversary of Funchal as a City at the Câmara building last week.
As Jardim began addressing the audience, a man stood up and sang the popular Zeca Afonso song. Police had to escort him out of the room.
The event was marked by another embarrassing incident when two councillors, Costa Neves (banned from the PSD) and Gil Canha (PND), left the room to avoid the president’s speech. They returned when Jardim finished.
