John Brandon found “the zone” with his putter and won the Royal British Club Golfing Society’s(RBCGS) July tournament with 43 stableford points – an event sponsored by Victoria – Seguros.
Miranda Thomas came in second with 36 points.RBCGS Captain, Edward Robbins was third with 34 points, requiring a count back to sneak past Jimmy Gray, who also had 34.
The guest competition was particularly active, and 11-year-old Harry Whittle, played off a handicap of six and won the guest prize with 38 points! The slightly more senior RBCGS members were, thereby, treated to a view of the future of the game – a fine view indeed!Harry’s father, Ian, took second among the guests.
Other prize winners included Bill Buxton, taking the Newstead Cup, Miranda Thomas, nearest to the pin in two, on the tough 16th hole, Ron Goddard winning the Captain’s Prize, and Peter Costeloe, last year’s Cup winner, taking home the cowbell, a reminder that golf brings both pleasure and pain!
The Society’s next event will be held at the Hotel Baia Plate on August 3.
