A British-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce (BPCC) lunch was held at the Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel in Sagres on Friday, May 27.
The lunch, at the resort’s O Terraço restaurant, saw guest speakers Chitra Stern and Rob Veltman from Martinhal Resort, António Almeida Pires from the Algarve Tourism Board (ERTA) and Daniel Dalmer from Diverscape present their services and projects in the Algarve.
Chitra Stern explained how the impact of building the Martinhal project in Sagres was a major challenge in the region and how it boosted its economy by providing hundreds of jobs and increasing the overall quality of tourism.
Chitra Stern went on to say that they had achieved their goal of becoming a family-friendly resort thus making Sagres a welcoming area for those who are looking for “a new and different Algarve”.

António Almeida Pires, Vice-President of ERTA, said that despite some initial reservations about investing in promotional campaigns for Sagres, the tourism board had recently found several niche markets such as the birdwatching, radical sports and nature tourism.
He said: “Martinhal Resort, along with other local businesses, sets the example for the true entrepreneur who wants to take a project from conception to end product. We, as ERTA, are very thankful for this project that firmly puts Sagres on the international map.”

Daniel Dalmer, a partner at Diverscape, described how the “amazing” diversity of fish species and the area’s clean waters make Sagres one of the best diving spots in the Algarve.
He said: “Diverscape Diving School is constantly promoting Sagres as an excellent area for underwater tourism, which attracts hundreds of divers every year”.
