Faro’s Portuguese men’s tennis No1 Rui Machado reached the semi-finals of the ATP Challenger Tour São Leopoldo Open in Brazil last week.
The 27-year-old Algarvean easily saw off Gastão Elias and Wayne Odesnik before losing out to eventual tournament winner Leonardo Mayer of Argentina for the third time this year.
Machado could have a chance of ending that particular losing streak this week when the two players are seeded to clash once more during the last four encounters of the ‘Copa Topper’ in Buenos Aires.
Following that event’s conclusion, Machado will return to Brazil for the inaugural ATP Challenger Tour Finals in São Paulo, which has the current world No74 as its top seed.
