Boy driver, 13, dies after crashing father’s pickup truck

A 13-year-old boy behind the wheel died after crashing his father’s pickup truck yesterday (January 2) near the Valverde village of Mogadouro council, north of Portugal.
A GNR source said: “After investigating the accident further, we concluded that it was the minor who was driving the vehicle and he was unaccompanied.” This was later confirmed by the boy’s father.
It is believed the boy lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into a stone slab on the side of road, which caused the vehicle to overturn.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene to assist the boy and take him to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries at the Mogadouro Emergency Health Unit.
An investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident is being carried out by the police authorities.
