Tuesday, May 23 was a hot humid morning for roll up at Balaia Bowls Club, but an enjoyable morning was had by all. Mid way through proceedings along with many other bowling clubs who hold their roll up days on Tuesday, a minute’s silence was held in memory of those who lost their lives in the bombing atrocity which occurred the night before in Manchester.
A gloriously warm sunny Thursday, May 25, and Balaia Bowls Club was the host for the second game in the Summer League. Again, before the game began, all teams stood in silence to show solidarity with Manchester.
Floresta Falcons, after this game, dropped down the table one place to second whilst Alvor Egrets take the top slot. Balaia are in their usual strong position, supporting the entire league from the bottom, with only one way to go.
In keeping with their fundraising activities, Balaia Bowls Club are again having a big push to raise more funds for the Albufeira voluntary firefighters. After the success of the parachute jumps last year, which raised over €5,000, and the recent donation of over €1,100, the next event is a sponsored 24-hour bowling marathon on September 16 and 17.
Anyone wishing to make a donation or pledge should contact Richard King (Club Chairman) on 935 367 492 or email [email protected].
Balaia welcomes bowlers of all levels, whether new or experienced, and has its roll up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.45am for 10am start.
